Rivalry - Episode 3


Episode 3


Scenario - ME TV8 Network

Pangalawang araw pa lamang ni Angel bilang head ng entertainment department ay nagpatupad kaagad ito ng mga pagbabago.

Una rito ang pag buo ng bagong production teams na pamumunuan ng mga taong sa tingin nya ay may malawak na kaalaman sa industriya ng telebisyon.

Bagaman inaasahan na, higit pang tumindi ang pag-aalala ng production staff sa magiging epekto nito sa kanila.

Sarah (staff 1): Ayan na ang kinatatakutan natin. Marami daw ipapatupad na pagbabago si Ma'am Angel.

Anna (staff 2): Naku! expected naman na gagawin nya yan.

Sarah (staff 1): Ang dinig ko may mga production teams daw na bubuwagin.

Anna (staff 2): Kanino kayang production team?

Sarah (staff 1): Hindi ko pa alam.

Francis (staff 3): Sabi nila papalitan lang yata ang mga head ng production pero as is pa rin ang staff.

Luis (staff 4): Ang bali-balita mga dating kasamahan daw ni Ma'am Angel sa SBS network ang ipapalit.

Francis (staff 3): Di naman siguro lahat ng production heads.

Francis (staff 3): I heard si Sir Louie daw ang papalit sa production team ni Sir Jacob.

Sarah (staff 1): Close kasi si Sir Jacob sa dating head ng entertainment department na si Mr. Santos.

Luis (staff 4): Hindi ba taga SBS network rin itong si Sir Louie?

Francis (staff 3): Yup, magkasama sila ni Ma'am Angel noon.

Anna (staff 2): Sana top executives lang ang papalitan at wag naman sana pati ang mga staff.

Sarah (staff 1): Sana nga.




Scenario - ME TV8 Conference Room

Pagkatapos makapili ng mga ipapalit sa production heads, agad din nagpatawag ng meeting si Angel sa kanila.

Naunang dumating sa conference room ang mga bagong executives. Excited sila marinig kung ano ang mga plano ni Angel para sa ME TV8.

Louie (new executive 1): Ano kaya ang gagawin ni Ms. Angel sa mga programa ng ME TV8.

Paolo (new executive 2): Malaki ang tiwala ko sa kakayahan nya bilang head ng entertainment department. Lalong lalo na pagdating sa pagpapataas ng ratings.

Kenneth (new executive 3): It's a widely-known fact that it was during Ms. Angel's time in SBS network nagsimula ang mga original concepts and ideas ng programming na nagresulta sa pagiging number one station nila hanggang ngayon.

Paolo (new executive 2): Well, kung nagawa ni Ms. Angel iyan noon, there's no reason why it can't happen again dito sa ME TV8.

Louie (new executive 1): Isang mabigat na hamon para sa ating lahat ay makamit ang status na iyan at makipagsabayan sa dalawang leading networks.


Natigilan ang lahat ng pumasok si Angel sa conference room.

Angel: Kanina pa ba kayo?

Louie (new executive 1): Hindi naman po Ms. Angel.

Angel: First of all, sa mga naka trabaho ko na dati, i'm happy to be working with you again. At sa iba na ngayon ko pa lang makakasama, i look forward to working with you.

Louie (new executive 1): Likewise Ms. Angel, masaya kami makakatrabaho ka namin muli. Just like the old times.

Paolo (new executive 2): Looking forward rin po kami makasama kayo, Ms. Angel.

Angel: Now that we have the authority to undergo innovations, i want everyone to be part of this transition.

Louie (new executive 1): Lahat kami Ms. Angel, we are willing to be part of it.

Angel: As you all know, the task ahead is going to be hard for us. We have a lot of work to do. Expectations will be extremely high. But these expectations can help us make that change.

Louie (new executive 1): Mataas nga po ang expectations ng mga tao sa pag upo ninyo bilang head ng entertainment department ng ME TV8.

Kenneth (new executive 3): Inaasahan kasi nila kung ano nagawa nyo sa kabilang network ay magagawa nyo rin dito.

Angel: It’s fine to have high expectations. If we all work together to strive to do better and always look for ways to get better, we can achieve our goals.

Paolo (new executive 2): We'll do our best, Ms. Angel.

Vincent (new executive 4): We will do all we can to ensure that the transition is successful.

Hindi muna nagbigay ng plano si Angel dahil masusing pinag-aaralan pa ang mga ito.


Scenario - Opisina ni Angel

Samantala, sinurpresa ni Jericho si Angel sa kanyang opisina upang yayain sabay mag lunch. Nagulat si Angel ng makita ang asawa. Lumapit si Jericho sa kanya niyakap at hinalikan.

Angel: Anong ginagawa mo dito?

Jericho: Did i surprise you?

Angel: Yeah! I didn't expect to see you here in my office.

Jericho: I know you're busy. I'd like to treat you to lunch. Let's have lunch together.

Angel: Sure, give me a few minutes, i’ll just wrap things up.

Jericho: I'll wait in the car.

Angel: Oo sige.

Hinalikan uli ni Jericho si Angel at umalis patungo sa kanyang sasakyan.


Scenario - Isang Buffet Restaurant

Nagpunta sina Angel at Jericho sa isang mamahaling restaurant para mag lunch. Habang kumakain inihayag ni Angel ang kanyang saloobin sa bago niyang trabaho.

Angel: It has been a tough morning for me. Ibang environment kaya nakakapanibago.

Jericho: Relax lang honey, ganun talaga. When you start a new job you're generally not in the company of others who are also new. May konting adjustments but eventually you'll get used to it.

Angel: I know that honey. One big challenge for me is getting the help i need to achieve our goals without being bossy.

Jericho: Hon, you're the new boss coming into a situation where relationships have already been formed. Dealing with them can be really challenging. Give it some time makukuha mo rin ang tiwala nila.

Angel: Parang ang feeling ko i'm under pressure to make a miracle on the status of the network overnight.

Jericho: It's easy to make a change and expect new results immediately. But as you know from experience or from simple observations, things don't always happen quickly and overnight.

Angel: Alam ko naman yun, kaya lang napakataas ng expectations ng mga tao na magagawa ko sa ME TV8 ang nagawa ko noon sa SBS network.

Jericho: Don't be too hard on yourself. Just keep going what you're doing.

Angel: Thank you honey for being always there for me.

Jericho: I'm so proud of you and i love you.

Angel: I love you too.

Niyakap ni Angel ng mahigpit ang asawa.



Gap 1


Scenario - SBS Network

Kasalukuyang ginaganap ang isang board of director's meeting sa board room ng SBS network. Napag-usapan sa naturang meeting ang naging resulta ng katatapos na pelikula ng SBS Films at ang status ng mga shows ng network. Ngunit, ang pinaka naging sentro ng agenda ay ang pagkakatalaga ni Angel Locsin bilang head ng entertainment department ng ME TV8.

Chairman Rivera: It's official, Angel Locsin will head the entertainment department of ME TV8.


Ang announcement na ito ni Chairman Rivera ang nagpakaba sa mga board of directors.

Mr. Cruz (board of director 1): I read about it in the papers and i think that is something for all of us to worry about since kasama natin si Angel when our long term integrated programming and marketing plans are still in the works.

Mr. Samaniego (board of director 2): Perhaps we need to implement some measure to safeguard our plans.

Mr. Cruz (board of director 1): I agree and it should be done immediately.

Mr. Morgan (board of director 3): We have a very serious concerns here because she has direct knowledge on the strategies, future plans and operational activities of the network. Angel can use these first hand informations against us.

Mr. De Leon (board of director 4): May balita rin ako inaalok ni Angel ng malaking offer and benefits ang mga dati nyang staff to join her, including some SBS stars that she has helped in their careers.


Sa sandaling ito nagsalita na si Chairman Rivera.

Chairman Rivera: Gentlemen, calm down. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Wala kayong dapat ipag alala dahil just before she resigned nagkaroon ng major changes sa mga naturang goals ng kumpanya.

Mr. Garcia (president): We've already implemented various reforms. Our programming and marketing plans have been greatly strengthened in order to ensure the future success of the network.

Mr. Samaniego (board of director 2): Did we implement the reforms quick enough? Does this include our people? particulary our contract stars?

Mr. Garcia (president): Rest assured that we did everything possible to protect our interests. On our SBS artists, term of the agreement and the termination provisions have also been amended. The network has offered them a new long term exclusive contracts.


Sa assurance na ibinigay ng Chairman at Presidente ng SBS network napawi ang pangamba ng mga board of directors sa pag assume ni Angel bilang head ng entertainment department ng ME TV8.


Scenario - Opisina ni Marian

May maliit na selebrasyon si Marian para sa kanyang mga production executives.

Marian: Congratulations! All our efforts have paid off. Now we're finally back at number one in primetime.


Hindi mapigil ni Marian ipakita ang sobrang kasiyahan, kumuha siya ng isang baso ng softdinks at akmang itinaas para makipag cheers sa mga kasama.

Marian: Cheers to our success!

Sumunod ang mga executives at nakipag cheers sa kanya.

Marian: Malaki ang nagawa ng sunod sunod na pasabog at revelations sa kwento ng mga palabas natin. People were glued to us because of that.

Heidi (executive 1): I guess effective rin ang naging early announcement ng series ending. Mas tinutukan ng televiewers ang show dahil sa pag aakalang malapit na ito matatapos.

Jay (executive 3): Isa pa mabuti rin hindi kinagat ng audience ang mga bagong teleseryes ng ATC network. We were able to grab and hold the viewers attention to watch our shows.

Marian: Well, i do believe in the saying that, you’ve got to learn proper timing because there’s wisdom in it.

Jay (executive 3): I agree with you ma'am Marian. Our timing was perfect as ATC network's shows weakened pinaganda ng writers ang story ng ating mga palabas kaya lumakas ang mga shows sa primetime.

Liza (executive 2): Infairness, naging compelling talaga ang kaganapan ng mga series at dahil dyan nakuha natin uli ang suporta ng manonood.

Jay (executive 3): I'd like to commend all the writers. They’re the ones that deserve the praise and recognition.

Heidi (executive 1): I'm glad our talented and imaginative creative team is focused on producing original out of the box concepts and ideas.

Marian: We must really keep up with changing times to gain a competitive edge.


Scenario - Marketing Office ng SBS Network

Habang nagkakasiyahan sina Marian at ang kanyang mga executives, busy naman gumagawa ng panibagong promotional strategies ang marketing department ng SBS network.

Nick (marketing head): Magkakasunod ang airing ng mga bagong shows ng network.

Alvin (marketing staff 1): Sir, wala po bang extensions? Akala ko number one na tayo. Hindi ba usually kapag malakas ang teleserye ini-extend ng management.

Louie (marketing staff 2): Oo nga Sir, nagtataka ako bakit walang mahabang extension ang mga shows natin. Dati rati kapag matataas ang ratings may announcement kaagad na extended ng ilang buwan.

Nick (marketing head): It’s not all about being number one in ratings. One of the most important aspects of business is profitability. If the project does not make a profit hindi mag dadalawang isip ang mga big bosses tapusin ito.

Louie (marketing staff 2): Profitability, like ad loads?

Nick (marketing head): Yes, ad loads.

Louie (marketing staff 2): Does that mean Sir Nick, hindi lang ratings ang tinitignan ng management?

Nick (marketing head): Certainly, crucial pa rin ang ratings because we all know advertisers always prefer to allocate their marketing budgets to TV shows with high ratings.

Alvin (marketing staff 1): Sir Nick, are you trying to say despite being number one hindi kumikita ang mga series ng SBS network kaya walang extensions?

Lynette(marketing staff 3): Siguro nga kasi bakit hindi nag extend ng matagal.

Louie (marketing staff 2): Matataas ang ratings but the question is may advertiser's confidence ba, eager ba sila maglagay ng ads sa show.

Alvin (marketing staff 1): Sa panahon ngayon matinding kakumpitensya ng networks ang social media. Marami na rin companies nag-aadvertise sa mga facebook, twitter at iba pang internet sites.

Nick (marketing head): The various phases of advertising have undergone many changes in the recent past. While television still continues to be the dominant medium, it is also apparent that social media poses a veritable threat to its dominance.

Alvin (marketing staff 1): I still believe, television is something that is basic and accessible to every household while internet is somewhat limited lang sa may connection lines.

Louie (marketing staff 2): Ang importante lang is how to persuade the advertisers to place their ads sa shows natin.

Nick (marketing head): That would be our job to find the most effective marketing strategy to sell our show.



Gap 2


Scenario - ATC Network

Maagang pumasok ng opisina si Mark Anthony na ikinagulat ng mga empleyado. Pinatawag agad si Katrina sa kanyang opisina.


In good mood si Katrina habang nagmamadaling pumunta sa opisina at pagkabungad sa pintuan all smiles na binati si Mark Anthony.

Katrina: Good morning! What brings you to work this early?


Ngunit, hindi inaasahan ni Katrina ang naging sagot ni Mark Anthony sa kanya.

Mark Anthony: Bakit tatapusin mo ang isang show natin sa primetime ng wala sa oras. Hindi ba kasisimula pa lang niyon?

Katrina: Aren't you going to offer me a seat? coffee? tea?


Nakangiti si Katrina habang tumingin ng seryoso si Mark Anthony sa kanya at saka umupo sa harapan ng table.

Katrina: Opsss, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. So you come in to work para lang tanungin ako tungkol dyan?

Mark Anthony: I need to know why you did it!

Katrina: Are you trying to question my decision making?

Mark Anthony: Wala ba akong karapatan magtanong?

Katrina: I thought we already agreed not to meddle in each other's work.

Mark Anthony: As Chairman, it is my responsibility to know what's going on in my company.

Katrina: But what's the rush? We usually discuss production issues, in more detail, during our monthly progress report with you.

Mark Anthony: I want to know what happened.


Ipinaliwanag ni Katrina kay Mark Anthony ang rason kung bakit tatapusin kaagad ang bagong labas nilang teleserye sa primetime.

Katrina: Mark, ang production unit mismo ng serye opted to just end the show dahil ayaw nila mailagay sa last slot ng primetime.

Mark Anthony: Ilalagay sa last slot? Why would you do that?

Katrina: Dahil magpapasok ako ng bagong show.

Mark Anthony: Hindi ba kaka start lang ng dalawang shows natin sa primetime and it seems they're doing well.

Katrina: But they are not doing well enough to beat out its rival show in SBS network.

Mark Anthony: Why don't you just add a new show without changing the present arrangement.

Katrina: Hindi pwede! dahil patuloy na lumalakas ang ratings ng kalabang programa. The series has failed to fire up the audience to watch it kaya bumaba ang ratings natin at kumukonti ang ad loads ng naturang timeslot.

Mark Anthony: Bakit hindi kayo mag isip ng paraan para tumaas ang ratings. Gumawa kayo ng gimiks and promos or tell the writers to make the story more interesting.

Katrina: Sa ngayon apektado na ang ibang shows ng primetime kaya we really need to replace the series as soon as possible. That timeslot has been our stronghold in primetime and i won't allow SBS network to turn the audience tide in their favor again.

Mark Anthony: What about the cast, how do you explain your decision to them?

Katrina: I don't have to. Dahil alam naman nila that is part of their job.

Mark Anthony: Maling mali ang ginawa mo. What you did was wrong. You could have handled it better. Ano nalang ang iisipin ng mga televiewers natin?


Halos magkainitan ng palitan ng opinion sina Mark Anthony at Katrina.

Katrina: Mark, our primetime soap is the flagship shows of ATC network. That is the most important public image of the station. We have to maintain and protect it at all cost no matter what.

Mark Anthony: Is this how you maintain and protect them?

Katrina: Alam ko ang ginagawa ko at ang dapat kong gawin and i won't even hesitate to do more.

Mark Anthony: You're being so stubborn and hard headed again.

Katrina: Mark, i'm just doing what is best for the network.

Mark Anthony: I'd like to believe that.

Katrina: Oh you know me well. I always mean what i say.


Sa puntong ito, umiiwas na si Katrina makipag diskusyon pa kay Mark Anthony.


Katrina: I don't want to argue with you on this.

Mark Anthony: I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just stating a fact.

Katrina: Every decision i have taken might have been unacceptable to a lot of people, but i took them keeping in mind kung ano ang mas makakabuti para sa buong kumpanya.

Mark Anthony: It is always better to give any big or small decisions careful and serious thought before doing it.

Katrina: Mark, please stop worrying about everything. You're becoming like your dad.


Walang magawa si Mark Anthony para baguhin ang naging desisyon ni Katrina. Bagaman hindi sya sang-ayon ayaw na rin nya makipagtalo pa dito.


Scenario - Sales and Marketing Office ng ATC Network

Samantala, abala ang opisina ng marketing department sa pagpaplano ng effective at efficient strategic marketing programs para sa promo ng mga bagong teleseryeng ipapalit sa primetime ng ATC network.


Jade (marketing chief): The management has decided to wrap two series up in primetime a few weeks early. We need to come up with an effective and efficient promotional strategy for these upcoming shows.

Dexter (marketing staff 1): Ma'am Jade, hindi po ba kasisimula pa lang ng dalawang shows na yun, bakit tatapusin kaagad?

Jade (marketing chief): I heard they haven't been doing good lately.

Cyruz (marketing staff 2): Ganun naman talaga ang management kapag hindi sila satisfied sa performance ng mga shows di na nila pinapatagal pa.

Dave (marketing staff 3): Wala rin silang magagawa kasi ratings ang basehan ng mga advertisers. Kapag hindi maganda ang ratings ng show, natural walang papasok na commercial at kapag walang commercials, walang kita ang production at network. Just like any other business, mahalaga talaga sa kanila ang kumita.

Dexter (marketing staff 1): Tingin ko si ma'am Katrina ang nag desisyon tapusin ang show.

Cyruz (marketing staff 2): Tama ka Dexter, ang alam ko mas concerned si ma'am Katrina sa ad loads ng shows keysa sa ratings. Kapag bumaba ang commercial loads ng show, siguradong papalitan kaagad nya.

Jade (marketing chief): Well, that's how it is. Entertainment industry is big business. It is highly competitive and we always face significant competitive threats from other networks. The industry is subject to rapidly evolving trends, and we must continuously offer innovative and upgraded shows to maintain and grow our leads.

Cyruz (marketing staff 2): Ma'am, alin po ba ang ipapalit?

Jade (marketing chief): The first series set to air is a light comedy drama.

Dave (marekting staff 3): Ah! yung show ng number one loveteam ng network.

Jade (marketing chief): Yes yun na nga. We have to identify our target audience then find the best promotional strategy to reach them.

Dave (marketing staff 3): Ma'am, pang teeny boppers ang story niyan kaya it will cater to the younger viewers.

Cyruz (marketing staff 2): So, let's focus our promotion on the loveteam ng dalawang bida. Palabasin natin na nagkakagustuhan sila in real life to create the kilig factor.

Jade (marketing chief): I don't think that's a good idea. Don't put too much trust in loveteams because they are not as reliable as they used to be.

Dave (marketing staff 3): I agree. I think we should give more attention to the story.

Dexter (marketing staff 1): Dapat mag isip tayo ng strategy beyond loveteams. Tama si Dave, let's focus our promo ads on the story.

Nagkasundo ang lahat ituon ang promotion ng bagong teleserye sa ganda at kalidad ng kwento nito.
